Our Projects
Building the Centre's Sense of Community
The Archive (2024 ongoing)
A small group of volunteers are currently researching the old Illogan School documents held by Kresen Kernow. Our findings will be made available in due course.
Water Main and Centre Kitchen Window Replacement Project (2025)

Our Project to replace the old pipework bringing water in to the Centre and replacing the 30 year old windows in the Centre's kitchen has been funded by the Suez Communities Fund.
We successfully applied for £3000 to carry out this much needed project. The old water pipes caused the water in the kitchen and toilet block to become badly discoloured unless water was run off each day. We had hoped to solve this problem with filters, however the discolouration had been so significant, the filters were having to be changed frequently to clogging creating reduced flow. This in turn was preventing the toilets flushing successfully and the water clarity in the kitchen had to be checked prior to use.
The Centre's kitchen windows were no longer sealing as the rubber seals had perished and the glass panels had blown resulting in moisture between the panes of glass.
We very much appreciate Suez Communities Fund's support for this much needed work carried out by 2 local business C&R Plastics, Camborne, and John Martin Plumbing and Heating.
Kitchen Project (2022)

Our Kitchen Project has been funded by The National Lottery. The refurbished kitchen includes a separate utility area.
The Kitchen enables groups to provide people a chance to stop and chat over a cuppa and refreshments.
The Kitchen Project forms part of our ongoing commitment to refurbish The Centre and Site to ensure our ongoing sustainability. We appreciate that The Old School continues to have an emotional attachment for many and we are dedicated to ensuring it remains a thriving part of the community through the facilities we offer as well as through our History Archive, The Playground Years.

Other improvements to the Centre and site have been made possible through Cornwall Council COVID Grants, Community Chest, Illogan Parish Council Grants and National Lottery Players.

News Release 2022:
The Old School Centre celebrates after receiving £9773 in National Lottery funding
The Old School Centre Illogan is celebrating today after being awarded £9773 in funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest funder of community activity in the UK.
The Old School Centre will use their funding to install a new Kitchen and utility room to enable groups with a social element to provide refreshments as part of their activity. The utility area will be accessible to groups using the Centre’s Garden, and will provide washing facilities for them and for craft groups using the Centre.
This new National Lottery funding will give all our visitors the opportunity to linger beyond their activity for a chat over a cuppa/snack whilst enjoying the Centre’s unique tranquil spaces. It will take a few months to get all the equipment in place but as soon as we are ready to go, we will be sending out invitations to welcome people back. We are looking forward to seeing existing supporters and to welcoming newcomers. The Old School continues to have an emotional attachment for many and we are dedicated to ensuring it remains a thriving part of the community through the facilities we offer as well as through our History Archive, The Playground Years.
National Lottery players raise over £30 million a week for good causes across the UK. The National Lottery Community Fund distributes a share of this to projects to support people and communities to prosper and thrive.
Jeanette Tapping, Centre Manager and Project Leader said: “Thanks to National Lottery players, this grant means that we can provide excellent facilities to enhance our visitors’ experiences and social interaction. This will make a big difference to people’s lives.”
During the pandemic, in 2020 alone, The National Lottery Community Fund distributed almost £1 billion to charities and community organisations across the UK.
