Trevenson Moor Garden Centre

Trevenson Moor Garden Centre

Kevin Ball

We took over Trevenson Moor Garden Centre in 2018 from the Stevenson’s family who had successfully traded here for many years.  Having formerly been part of the Stevenson’s successful team the opportunity to embark on this new venture has inspirational and the community’s support has been inspirational especially during 2020.

Our core values focus on sustainability and ecological responsibility.  We offer quality home and garden ware along with a range of plants, shrubs, bulbs and seeds.  If you are unsure of the right plant for you, we can advise you.

We are supporting the virtual Illogan Horticulture and Domestic Show by giving a donation based on plant sales through the Illogan Connect site.

Click here for our on line shop and your purchase will add to our donation at no additional cost to you.

Allotment Gardening

Allotment Gardening

Andrew Tompsett

One of my happiest and most rewarding experiences is digging, (and eating) the season's first new potatoes. This year I planted one called 'Lady Crystyl' - the tubers are white and beautiful, the skins rub off easily and boiled with a little mint in early June is an event to celebrate. Now the ground is cleared and it's ready to plant leeks, brassicas and Swiss chard for the winter.

My allotment at Eastern Lane, Camborne provides a range of produce, exercise in the fresh air, and companionship (but not too close lately!)  Eastern Lane allotments, known as Camborne Produce Association, were established in1890 and there are over 100 plots. The tea room, modern toilet facilities, a store for the sale of sundries and an excellent discount arrangement with Dobies seeds of Paignton are all there for plot holders. My annual rent is about £40. Very reasonable.

One thing I would really welcome would be a more local plot to avoid the weekly trip to Camborne. â€‹I know efforts to obtain an Illogan allotment site have been made in the past but without success. Perhaps with the unlocking of the Covid 19 pandemic there would be renewed enthusiasm for another attempt.

Illogan Sparnon Silver Band

Shaun Marsden

The Illogan Sparnon Silver Band was formed in 1976 and in its early days it purchased a hut as a rehearsal room,  The Band was formed and kept alive by Clifford Bolitho who handed over the reigns of Musical Director to Shaun Marsden on his retirement in 2016.

Shaun was one of Clifford Bolitho’s trainee musicians, learning to play at the age of 5.  The Band has steadily increased in numbers over recent years and succeeded in being placed 5th out of 15 Bands competing in the recent National championships.  A fantastic result providing a boost to the players and supporters.

Although the Band has not been able to rehearse since the competition due to the Coronavirus lockdown, work on the new band room is still underway.  11 months in to the new build, Shaun has been busy building and campaigning for funds.  He is currently fundraising for roof tiles and donations are welcome.  For more information, contact Shaun on 07815 960474.

Illogan Parish Council

Chairman of the Illogan Parish Council

Councillor David Crabtree

May I start by saying that the current situation has brought about new challenges, not only for myself as Chairman of the Parish Council, but for all of the Councillors having to adapt to holding virtual meetings and trying to deal with planning matters via emails instead of sitting around the table.

It is not known how long it is before we can hold normal meetings, as not only do we have to consider social distancing of Parish Council members, we have also got to think about members of the public who may wish to attend.  Read More

Positive People: Active Plus

Illogan Volunteer Group

Andrew Blizzard

The Group â€‹was set up at the start of lockdown with the aim of helping vulnerable or shielding people in and around Illogan.

The team of volunteers grew steadily as did the people who needed the group’s support. The volunteers posted flyers through doors to advertise the service and the uptake was quite incredible. Most of the jobs have been shopping or prescription collections but there have been a few unexpected and unusual requests for help!

To date, the Illogan Volunteer Group have completed well over 200 jobs and have helped over 120 different people in the Illogan Community.

With people returning to work, it is becoming more and more difficult for the volunteers to commit as much as before so we will have to wait and see how this impacts on the work the group can do.

Positive People

Active Plus

Positive People are still here to support individuals to overcome their barriers and gain employment/education/training. Support from our 1-2-1 Change Coaches can be provided virtually through telephone calls and other digital means.

The support  focuses on employment, education and training outcomes. Change Coaches support participants throughout their time on the projects and help people research and apply for work, write CV’s and assist with covering letters.

They are able to signpost participants to training and online education opportunities and have access to specialist support for debt/money management, housing, mental health, wellbeing, addictions etc.
